Welcome to the Greater Indianapolis Chapter Homepage!

Chapter Name: Greater Indianapolis Mortgage Bankers Association (GIMBA)

Chapter’s history: In July of 1989, GIMBA merged with the state association in order to create a united voice in promoting Indiana housing through legislative efforts and other programs directly impacting mortgage banking and the real estate finance industry.

Geographical area served: GIMBA serves all counties within the Indianapolis MSA and Lafayette.

Description of meeting schedule: GIMBA holds educational meetings throughout the year. The purpose of these meetings is to provide members with opportunities to meet, learn, and participate in shared experiences with others who have common goals and concerns related to real estate finance. Each meeting has a strong educational component, as well as elements of fun and networking.

Special meetings: GIMBA holds meetings to show appreciation to staff and recognize VIP’s. The chapter also hosts a one-day Sales Seminar each year with nationally-known presenters.

Community service or other special projects:
For many years, GIMBA has contributed funds and supplied volunteer teams to assist in the construction of affordable housing for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis (HfHGI). In 2009, GIMBA raised over $8,000 for HfHGI from a golf outing, 'Wine Tasting' and 'Celebrity Bartender' events. (Pictured below handing over a check to HfHGI's Development Manager, Stephen Craig are; Albert Gonzalez, GIMBA Board Member, Scott Weghorst, GIMBA Past President, and, Alan Thorup, GIMBA Executive Director.)

Other community service projects that GIMBA has supported include Toys for Tots, Rebuilding Together Indianapolis, Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership, and the Indiana Mortgage and Foreclosure Helpline administered by Momentive Consumer Credit Counseling Service. Funds for these contributions are raised by various fundraising activities.

In 2003 GIMBA developed a consumer education program to inform and educate mortgage borrowers about mortgage fraud. This program includes printed materials, video, and presentations by mortgage professionals. GIMBA then turned the program and all materials over to the Indiana Mortgage Bankers Association so that the program could be conducted all across the state.

Great news!  GIMBA has entered into a partnership with Financial Strategies, a premier mortgage industry training firm. Financial Strategies is a single-source, nationwide provider of classroom and online training. With over 35 years combined experience in Consumer Finance, Mortgage Lending, and Mortgage Brokering in both conventional and sub-prime markets, they have the experience to help you succeed.
